Thruxton Kart Centre kicked off the first round of the eagerly awaited Summer Short Series Championship last night (Thursday, 18 July).
The event saw an enthusiastic turnout with fifteen karters, both seasoned racers and newcomers, taking to the track under a perfect summer sky.
The Summer Series, known for its sprint format, requires competitors to complete a 10-minute practice/qualify, a 10-minute heat, and a 20-minute final. This structure ensures that every race is packed with excitement.
Practice Qualify: Finding Their Feet
The practice/qualify saw competitors getting accustomed to the track. Seasoned competitors reassessed their strategies against new faces. Reggi Moseley, the champion of the first season of the Short Series Championship, secured the top position, followed closely by Ali Robertson and Alex Whale. The stage was set for an intense heat.
Heat: Battle for Pole Position
With grid positions established, the drivers took a brief break before diving into the ten-minute heat. The heat was marked by numerous position changes, showcasing the drivers' determination and skill. Moseley, Robertson (holder of our fastest lap record on the full 1100m circuit), and Whale engaged in a fierce battle for pole position for the final, with Robertson ultimately overtaking Moseley, while Whale maintained his position within the top three.
Final: A Nail-Biting Finish
The twenty-minute final was a testament to the competitors' resilience and racing prowess. As drivers pushed their limits, the race witnessed several close calls and impressive overtakes. Josh Rose, showcasing his strategic acumen, climbed up the grid to finish fourth, defending his position valiantly. The fight for the top spot was particularly thrilling. Although Whale managed to hold onto first position from lap four onwards, the race for second and third was fiercely contested between Robertson and Moseley. The duo traded places multiple times, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats. Ultimately, Moseley secured second place, leaving Robertson in third.
Looking Ahead
Round 2 of the Summer Short Series is scheduled for Thursday, 22nd August, starting at 18:30. Thruxton Kart Centre invites all racing enthusiasts and spectators to join and witness the high-octane action.
